Day 8: Prague! Astronomical clocks, goulash and monsoon weather!

Where we stayed
The Hostel Advantage on Sokolská street. A lovely little colourful hostel in the heart of Prague, a ten minute walk from the main train stations and a 20 min (if you have long legs like me) to the old town of Prague. The room was very comfortable and the staff was nice. Also, good reliable free wifi!!! :D not to be scoffed at, especially when you're only booking your accommodation a few days in advance!! We really enjoyed our two days here! (Past tense as this is a back blog...too many days hit us at once! 🙃)

What we explored

As this has become routine now, another city, another free walking tour! We LOVE these!
If I have tale wary explained this concept, these tour guides work on a tips only basis, they do this job because the this love their city and have a passion for sharing the stories of its present and history with visitors. It's not there to rip you off, only to inform and it's made so that everybody, regardless of their budget, can enjoy and learn about their city. You tip them as much as you think they deserve/balanced with how much you can afford. We really loved this ethos and try to give as much as we could on our tight budget! We have yet to be disspointed.

Today our guide was Noah from Wisconsin, a very informed TEFL teacher in a school here in Prague. We arrived early and guess what, we bumped into the three other girls that were staying in our hostel room with us!! We made friends!! Three lovely girls from Germany who were taking a wee break before they started back at uni, one of the, was even about to go study her masters in Aberdeen uni would you believe!! It's a small world!

Here are a few of the things we saw in Prague (and I'll add links later to add some more info to each of them)

Old town square

Aestronomical clock

Tyn church

Powder gate
Rudolfinum music theatre.
Kafka sculpture
The old Jewish quarter

Other things we explored ourselves....
Charles bridge
Prague Castle... Thank you to the Rolling Stones !! (They helped fund getting th castle lit up r night!!)
(Camera images to follow!)
We,were planning on exploring s lot more of th city but just as we reached the castLe gardens, the heavens opened, and we got completely soaked!!! Like completely and totally soaked to our skin. I have never been cought in the rain that bad before and hope that I never do ever again! We got ice cream in a cake thing to make us feel better....

Some other points...

Czech money is weird! It took us so long to try and get our heads around this conversion rate.... 1 euro was worth 27 Czech Krona ...doesn't sound that bad until you pay for a £50 meal and it comes up 1,350.91 CZK!!! Ooft.

The Bohemian crystal is awesome! Very gorgeous glasses and vases that I'd have loved to take home! We'll just have to come back!

What we ate!

Lokal - as recommended by the tour guide- we ate here with the three German gals San tried some delicious local cuisine. I had deep fire cheese...yes. And claire had some yummy Goulash!

That evening, after we dried out at the hostel for a bit, we headed back into town and had some lovely fish dishes at an Italian restaurant in the old town in the centr of Prague, just off the main old town square. It was absolutely delicious!

Euro rail adventure!!! August/September 2016

Hello lovely people who decided to read our blog!!  Some of you may have followed the other travel blog that I do with my little sister Catriona...this one will be relatively the same but the writing will be shared with one of my best friends in the world, the lovely Claire (@Claireabella7 on Instagram if your interested). (Photo of us here) As we both graduated this July we decided to spend the remaining money that fourth year left us with (and some hard earned poker money form various jobs) on a special celebratory trip!! We had been talking about doing an interail trip for some time now ...but as usual either time, money or energy have been working against us... So since we finally had some  time  we thought "Hey! When else are we going to have anonymity chance to travel for a month without any disruptions or work commitments to rush back to!!" So here we are!!  Doing a big circular loop around Europe, starting in Amsterdam and finishing in Brussels, atte

Day 6: Berlin!!

Where we stayed   We were tired today! Alto ought we were relaxing out in the countryside with Kati we squeezed a lot in and we also did a fair bit of exercise too! So, a combination of that and the hostel dorm being too warm!! It was warmer in that room than it was outside!! A cold shower in the morning and at night helped us keep cool (and smelling relatively nice!).  What we explored We got the train into town and headed straight to the Brandenburg Gate where our walking tour was setting off from. There we met 'tall posh Rob' from Durham and he was our tour guide for the following three hours!! We learnt a lot about Berlin's history, some of which we already knew but a lot that was new to us and very interesting! We saw some of the key sites along the way too....another fantastic thing about these free walking tours! The Holocaust memorial Check point Charlie Hitlers bunker (not the actual thing as it was destroyed and is now noting more than a 'glorified' car p

Day 2 : A day in Amsterdam

Hello! We have lots to tell you about our day in Amsterdam, we tried the food, visited many places and learned a lot about the history of this liberal city.  Where we stayed: It had been suggested that we tried the lucky lake hostel, and it was certainly worth the pennies (perhaps one of the more expensive hostels we'll be staying in during this trip). The cheerful decor and helpful staff really made us feel at home, we're already dreaming of coming back some day. Our highlight was sitting in the hammocks holding a nice cold Amsterdam beer.  (Pictures to follow ) Places we explored: We managed to cover so much of Amsterdam in one day! The beauty of this place is that it's so easy to get around on foot (just watch for the cyclists, they will not  stop for you). As it was such a nice day we spent a lot of time visiting the outside attractions. We were lucky enough to stumble across a free walking tour, lead by a lovely guide called Karen.  (Pictures to follow ) Food we ate: W
