Day 5: The dragon mountain and on to Berlin.

Day 5
Relaxed breakfast with Willie and Kati before we packed as much activities as we could be four our train to Berlin. This is why Germans always have so much energy and hard work ethic, they start their days right :)

Then as we headed to the mountain we were going to climb we drove along the river 'ah' through steep valleys lined with countless vinyards. Miles and miles of grape vines that would make all of our parents jealous.
We then had a very hurried climb up dragon mountain...(German name coming soon). The sun was a sweltering 32 degrees but luckily we were in the shadow of the trees for most of the way! It took us about an hour tot the top but we got the monorail back down before rushing off again to make it to the train. Made it in time ...but oh BOY, busy train! Reminded to self...if a train is longer than 1 hour...BOOK A SEAT!! (Even if the advise says not to bother!!) we stood for approx 30 minutes but final,y after one of th busier stops we got a seat till Berlin.  We slept, read, blogged and ate the delicious lunch that Petra had prepared us :)

Finally, after a few metro changes, we made it to our hostel!! There is a very good transport system in Berlin! The hostel here is a bit of a different tone from what we have come across so far, it is evident that this is definitely more of a party city. And how are the rooms hotter than outside?! Overlooking the train tracks...not an ideal location but it will do us for now (we knew setting the standards high from the beginning would spoil us). We were hungry and tired when we arrived so we went to the nearest place we could get food by the hostel, which just happened to be this curry wurst stand (curry wurst is something you have to try in Berlin according to Kati). Probably wasn't the most swanky place to get food, the plate of food was buried underneath tomato sauce and mayonnaise and their hygiene standards were... questionable (don't worry parents, we're fine!!🙃) . Despite that, it was pretty good, although we reckon we were at that level of hunger where anything would have tasted good.  As long as it doesn't kill us we're good!

Day 2 : A day in Amsterdam

Hello! We have lots to tell you about our day in Amsterdam, we tried the food, visited many places and learned a lot about the history of this liberal city.  Where we stayed: It had been suggested that we tried the lucky lake hostel, and it was certainly worth the pennies (perhaps one of the more expensive hostels we'll be staying in during this trip). The cheerful decor and helpful staff really made us feel at home, we're already dreaming of coming back some day. Our highlight was sitting in the hammocks holding a nice cold Amsterdam beer.  (Pictures to follow ) Places we explored: We managed to cover so much of Amsterdam in one day! The beauty of this place is that it's so easy to get around on foot (just watch for the cyclists, they will not  stop for you). As it was such a nice day we spent a lot of time visiting the outside attractions. We were lucky enough to stumble across a free walking tour, lead by a lovely guide called Karen.  (Pictures to follow ) Food we...

Zagreb and the not so orient express.

Not going to lie, this was not the most productive day we've had so far. We had the majority of the day to spend in Zagreb before we needed to board our first night train of the trip. However, we couldn't do anything with our big heavy rucksacks so we had to lug them about wherever we went. To be fair we did do a lot of walking the previous day, so we felt quite content with exploring the areas closer to the train station.  So, first of all we walked up to the grand hotel that used to serve as a rest stop for travellers of the great Orient Express. We considered having a wee coffee just to experience a small slice of what it might have been like to live such an affluent life (the hotel has been visited by the likes of Queen Elizabeth...). I would love to say that we did... But we gazed at the fancy waiters in their fancy suits and then took a look at ourselves and settled upon having our pack lunch in the gardens with a view of the hotel instead. We we haven't had a great e...

Day 8: Prague! Astronomical clocks, goulash and monsoon weather!

Where we stayed The Hostel Advantage on Sokolská street. A lovely little colourful hostel in the heart of Prague, a ten minute walk from the main train stations and a 20 min (if you have long legs like me) to the old town of Prague. The room was very comfortable and the staff was nice. Also, good reliable free wifi!!! :D not to be scoffed at, especially when you're only booking your accommodation a few days in advance!! We really enjoyed our two days here! (Past tense as this is a back blog...too many days hit us at once! 🙃) What we explored As this has become routine now, another city, another free walking tour! We LOVE these!  If I have tale wary explained this concept, these tour guides work on a tips only basis, they do this job because the this love their city and have a passion for sharing the stories of its present and history with visitors. It's not there to rip you off, only to inform and it's made so that everybody, regardless of their budget, can enjoy and learn...
