Relaxing beach day in Nice...

We slept late, had a slow breakfast and then meandered out way to the beach. We sat there for most of the day, claire swam, I sunned myself had a we nap, took some photos....then we wondered up and found somewhere to have lunch and had a delicious seafood salad each. WE MISS ITALIAN COFFEE! They still have lovely pastries here but their coffee is sharp and a bit bitter comparison to the delightful coffee we've been indulging in for the past week of our travels.

We went back to the beach for a wee while in the afternoon and just enjoyed the salty sea breeze in the still quite warm 4pm sun.

We adventured out does the to a local chain restaurant called Hippopotamus for dinner, and just to spite the rude and ignorant American voile beside us we iced to speak as much French as we could muster to the poor waitress. Dinner was ok but reasonably priced so we didn't mind.

After a couple of weeks with very little social contact (and by this I mean going out or drinking) with anyone but ourselves (it sounds a bit boring right, nope , we are quite enjoying our quiet time and each others company) anyway tonight we socialised at the hostel over a bottle of wine with some lovely fellow travellers on the hostels outdoor terrace. The seemed to be LOADS of Aussies about, one American and one Kiwi. They were all solo travellers too, escaping the cold winter weather down south right now. We stayed up past 1am and then called it a night when the drinking games started. Haha however it as a very pleasant evening with a lot of laughter.

Hello lovely people who decided to read our blog!!  Some of you may have followed the other travel blog that I do with my little sister Catriona...this one will be relatively the same but the writing will be shared with one of my best friends in the world, the lovely Claire (@Claireabella7 on Instagram if your interested). We had been talking about doing an interail trip for some time now ...but as usual either time, money or energy have been working against us... So since we finally had some  time  we thought "Hey! When else are we going to have anonymity chance to travel for a month without any disruptions or work commitments to rush back to!!" So here we are!!  Doing a big circular loop around Europe, starting in Amsterdam and fin...

Day 6: Berlin!!

Where we stayed   We were tired today! Alto ought we were relaxing out in the countryside with Kati we squeezed a lot in and we also did a fair bit of exercise too! So, a combination of that and the hostel dorm being too warm!! It was warmer in that room than it was outside!! A cold shower in the morning and at night helped us keep cool (and smelling relatively nice!).  What we explored We got the train into town and headed straight to the Brandenburg Gate where our walking tour was setting off from. There we met 'tall posh Rob' from Durham and he was our tour guide for the following three hours!! We learnt a lot about Berlin's history, some of which we already knew but a lot that was new to us and very interesting! We saw some of the key sites along the way too....another fantastic thing about these free walking tours! The Holocaust memorial Check point Charlie Hitlers bunker (not the actual thing as it was destroyed and is now noting more than a 'glorified' car p...

Varese: convertible car rides and Italian lakes

Well. Had a VERY relaxed and amazing sleep in David's gorgeous colourful apartment last night! We didn't even set an alarm today we simply woke up when we were ready. Unfortunately the SEVRAL churches in Davies neighbourhood had other ideas. I was woken at 6 first then again at 8 so I just got up. It was a lovely view from the front balcony and you and from the back veranda you could see the hills of Switzerland.         Once everyone else had risen we had a coffee on the balcony and headed off in David's convertible car towards two lakes in the area,  Lake Lago d'orta and Lake Maggiore. We first hea ded to  Lago d'orta, perched at the bottom of a deep valley we waked down a very steep hill from the car park th the village and the lake. The village was quite typical of a lake village in Italy; steep pebbled streets, colourful houses that are slightly falling apart, altogether a very beautiful and idyllic setting to have lunch.  (Photos to follow) ...
